So easy and so charming that I can’t believe I waited so long to explore this 90 population town. And with Antique Week kicking off, it’s been hot on my mind to write about this cute Texan place.
Although Round Top Texas is famous for its spring, fall, and winter antique weeks, this Texas destination is great year-round. Perfect for anyone that loves a bit of vintage, southern fried chicken, pecan pies, and a whole lot of charm. Round Top might be my favorite Houston day trip escape yet.

In no particular order, here are 11 must things you can do in a day on your visit to Round Top Tx.
Savory Pies At Royers Pie Haven
Peach, pecan, or maybe the savory Hee Haw? A slice of pie with a cup of grace Texas coffee from Royers Pie Haven is a great way to start your day in Round Top.

Fried Chicken At Royers Round Top Cafe
From the patio porch to the cafe ceiling, this Round Top cafe is the best. The wait on a weekend is worth it! Even your kids will love it because there’s so much to look at (an eye spy game haven for kids) and so many yummy menu options. You’ll want to try them all.
If you visit Round Top on a Sunday, order Conlee’s Fried Chicken Dinner. The chicken is marinated for 24 hours in buttermilk and garlic, and then hand-battered.
And if there was something on the menu you’d love to try at home, a Royers Round Top Cafe cookbook was published in April 2022 – popular southern dishes and pie recipes included.

Shopping In Henkel Square
While there are many Round Top shops and restaurants that line Henkel Square Market, here are favorites to not miss.
- Home decor at Round Top Antiques & Design Center – From cowhide rugs to antique London train signs, you can spend hours exploring all the things at this Round Top store.
- Monarch-inspired art and other fun stuff At Humble Donkey Studio – This British pun is available in a variety of textiles and ceramics. They serve beer and wine, too!
- Vintage Chanel No5 pendants at Mallory et Cie – Texas country meets French chic. It’s shops like Mallory’s that make you feel like you’re on a European getaway more than a Texas one.
- Round Top hats at Wimberly Inc – One in every color is perfect for a Round Top Texas girls’ trip.

Rummel Square For Townsend Provisions
Find Townsend Provisions in this small Round Top square. Go to the second floor to see the prettiest vintage boot shop display ever as seen in the Country Living magazine featuring Round Top and Conde Nast Traveler.
Although these one-of-a-kind boots can be a bit spendy for a non-collector, a photo of the boot wall is free and a total must.
Junk Gypsy
Junk Gypsy is THE most popular shop in Round Top Texas. Make sure it’s at the top of your list of things to do in Round Top Texas. Made famous by HGTV, this store is more than just a vintage clothing shop geared towards females. Junk Gypsy offers things to do in Round Top for your family too.

- See the Pink Junk Gypsy truck dressed in typical Texas longhorn style
- Relax in the hammocks
- Play cornhole and other yard games
- Stay at Wander Inn, the gorgeously decorated farmhouse-style houses located behind Junk Gypsy. And owned by the Junk Gypsy female duo owners, too!

European Furniture Shopping at RT Antiques
For serious no-frills mass furniture shopping, go to RT Antiques. If you’re in search of that perfect French entry bench, Scandinavian dressers, or antlers to decorate walls, this Round Top shop offers an entire warehouse of options all year long.
Cocktails at Ellis Motel
Contrary to what you might think, Ellis Motel only serves cocktails. You can’t stay overnight here, but you will find the best spicy cocktail in town. Seating space is limited upstairs at the Ellis Motel, but there’s an alley bar downstairs and ample room in oversized chairs with fire pits outside. The porch is pretty cool, too.

Stone Cellar and Round Top Dance Hall
This 1907 (approximately) Texas dance hall is not native to Round Top. It was relocated from Wesley to Round Top to serve as an antique venue. While it primarily functions as a site for antique weeks, Round Top Dance Hall is committed to preserving its music roots. With more and more Texas dance halls trying to be saved, be sure to pop into this one for a visit.
Meanwhile, on the same property is the rustic Stone Cellar. It’s a lively local pub that hosts music and other events on Friday and Saturday nights.
What You Need To Know Before Visiting Round Top
A few things to know about Round Top to best plan your visit:
- Round Top is 610 acres. Yes, acres! That’s equivalent to almost 1 square mile. Comfortable walking shoes are not necessarily required, although dirt roads may make you want to consider otherwise. I wore Vejas.
- While most things to do in Round Top Texas are centrally located around Henkel and Rummel Square, other places require you to drive. Junk Gypsy is 2 miles from Henkel Square.
- Many Round Top businesses are closed on Monday and Tuesday.
- During Antique Week, the one-way road in (SH 237) and through Round Top can take a very long time to move only a couple of miles.
- The town’s population goes from 90 to 100,000+ during Antique Week.
- Hotels, such as Round Top Inn, Wander Inn, and Flophouze Shipping Container Hotel, book a year in advance for this worldly antique event, so plan accordingly. Or visit during non-peak times of the year – it makes these Round Top things to do a whole lot easier.

Final Thoughts On Things To Do In Round Top Texas
Since Round Top is such a great destination for antique shopping in a charming setting, it’s a great place to go in Texas for a girls’ trip. Round Top is within 2 hours from Houston or Austin, so driving or even flying in makes this Texas town convenient for a girls’ weekend. For a girls’ wine weekend, go to Fredericksburg, but for antique shopping and country charm, go to Round Top.
